Mossley 2 Tandragee Rovers 3
Intermediate Cup – Round 1
TANDRAGEE Rovers progressed to round 2 of the Intermediate Cup with a 3-2 away win over Mossley but the scoreline didn’t reflect Rovers’ dominance for most of the game.
Tandragee took the lead through Cecil Corbett. Paul Greenaway closed down a back pass before rounding the keeper and squaring the ball to Corbett to knock into an empty net. Tandragee had further chances to score through Mark Bicker and AJ Gallagher but they shot wide in front of goal.
Gallagher made amends for his earlier miss when he picked the ball up from Corbett inside the box before making space for himself to curl the ball into the bottom left hand corner. Before halftime Mark Bicker hit the post with a rasping shot from outside the box.
Second half Mossley posed more of an attacking threat and pulled a goal back from a curling free kick from the edge of the box into the top right corner.
Tandragee had chances to score through Jamie Uprichard and Aaron Greenaway but again they failed to test the Mossley keeper. Mark Bicker scored Tandragee’s third goal with a neat finish from a through ball which he chipped over the onrushing Mossley keeper. Substitute Ian Walker had two chances in front of goal but on both occasion he header over the bar before Mossley pulled a goal back with five minutes to go to leave a tense finish.
Tandragee played well in periods, especially in the first half but they will have to be more clinical in front of goal. Man of the match went to Jamie Uprichard.
