A Tandragee teenager has been handed one of the highest honours an Army Cadet can receive, after being appointed His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet for the County of Armagh.
Cadet Corporal Rachel Hamilton, from Tandragee Detachment, was formally invested as Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet during a ceremony at Hillsborough Castle on Saturday, March 7.
Only a small number of exceptional cadets are chosen each year to represent their counties in this role, which recognises outstanding commitment, leadership and service above and beyond the already high standards expected in the Army Cadet Force.
As Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet, Rachel will support the Lord Lieutenant of County Armagh, the Earl of Caledon, at official engagements throughout her year in office.
Her duties may include assisting at royal visits, remembrance services, civic ceremonies and other key events, where she will act as a youth ambassador for both the cadets and the wider community.
The appointment is seen as a mark of Rachel’s dedication, professionalism and leadership within the cadet movement – and a reflection of the positive example she sets for other young people in her detachment and across the Battalion.
