A number of community concerns surrounding burglaries, speeding and organised criminality in the Armagh area has been raised with police.
Cusher DUP ABC Council representative Alderman Gareth Wilson met with the PSNI in Armagh to discuss the issues.
His meeting coincided with a concerning burglary incident in Derryhale where in the early hours of Monday morning, a local resident’s home was entered and a quantity of vital prescription medication taken.
Alderman Wilson urged residents to be extra vigilant for criminality in the winter months and especially as Christmas draws near.
Alderman Wilson stated: “I thank Kelly Moffett the Armagh Neighbourhood Inspector for her time today and the resources put towards dealing with the concerning theft of prescription medication from a person in Derryhale.
“My thoughts remain with the resident whom I spent some time with today to assist them with various matters. It is clear this type of criminality, whilst thankfully on this occasion not resulting in direct harm to the resident, has caused upheaval and disruption to their important medical treatment.”
He added: “The wider security discussion with PSNI representatives today was timely and useful and it is very important that in the run up to Christmas, when families naturally will have higher value items at home, they ensure they take notice of their own home security. It is important to ensure that items are stored out of sight and that doors and windows are locked when the home is empty or during the night.”
He continued: “The theft of the prescription medication in Derryhale is proof that there are those individuals out there who do not care what impact their criminality has on others and it is reprehensible that the victim was put through this ordeal.”
He concluded: “In terms of speeding it is also important that in winter months when visibility is poorer and the days shorter, that we all drive with increased care and attention to both the conditions and the risk that may be present around the next corner.
“I have been assured that further speed checks at various locations will be undertaken in the coming days.”
