Suspended prison term for south Armagh woman who wrongly claimed over £35,000 in benefits

The fraud was uncovered following an investigation by the Department for Communities

A south Armagh woman who fraudulently claiming over £35,700 in benefits has been given a suspended prison term.

Yvonne Hoey (56), of Molly Road, Jonesborough, claimed Employment Support Allowance and rate relief totalling £35,724 whilst failing to declare receiving capitial while claiming benefits.

At Newry Crown Court, she was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment suspended for two years.

The fraud was uncovered following an investigation by the Department for Communities.

The defendant, court heard, has repaid all money wrongly obtained to the Department.
