Police operation after discovery of reported ‘historic weapons hide’ in south Armagh

There are reports of a police operation involving a possible “historic weapons hide” discovery in south Armagh.

Police have been at the scene in Jonesborough since late yesterday (Wednesday) evening.

A cordon has been put in place but police are remaining tight-lipped on the reason for the operation, according to the Belfast Telegraph.

Sinn Fein councillor Mickey Larkin, speaking to the publication, said: “It’s too early to say what’s been found, police are waiting to see what it is that has been found.

“They have been there from last night and while there has been a road closure disruption for residents in the area has been minimal.”

According to the local representative, the operation is expected to conclude this evening.

The Telegraph are reporting that indications this morning pointed towards a Troubles-era weapons hide being found in the area.
