A car, was which found on fire in Camlough on Saturday night, was hijacked in Dundalk the previous evening.
It is understood the driver of the BMW was dragged out of the car, by the hair, at knife point at an Aldi store in Dundalk, on Friday night.
Approximately 24 hours later the car was found on fire on the Newry Road in Camlough – at the entrance to SAFE Fuels – with its number plates missing.
A police spokesperson said: “Police received a report at approximately 10.40pm on Saturday, November 30 of a vehicle on fire in the Newry Road area of Camlough.
“Enquiries are at an early stage. However, we believe the car involved may have previously been reported stolen in the Dundalk area on Friday, November 29.
“Anyone with information regarding this report is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 1854 30/11/24.”
One fire appliance from Newry station was despatched to the scene.
A NI Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Firefighters were called to report of a car on fire on Saturday evening.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, used two hose reels to extinguish the fire. The incident was dealt with by 11.04pm and the cause of the fire is believed to be deliberate ignition.”
