The life and legacy of Donna McCoy Sloan – a woman remembered for her compassion, courage and unwavering commitment to justice – will be honoured at a special memorial stone unveiling in Centenary Garden, Camlough this weekend.
Donna’s family warmly invites friends, neighbours, community activists and everyone whose lives she touched to join them for this special occasion, held in recognition of Palestinian Women’s Day.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend, Donna was also a tireless campaigner for justice and a passionate advocate for the Palestinian people.
Her commitment to standing alongside the voiceless remained steadfast, even during her courageous battle with Motor Neurone Disease, diagnosed in 2021.
In August 2024, despite her illness, Donna joined family and community members in Camlough to plant a tree for Palestine, marking 300 days of the genocide in Gaza.
Unable to speak herself, her daughter Caoibhe delivered Donna’s powerful message of solidarity with the Palestinian people, reflecting a woman whose compassion and determination never diminished.
Following her passing on January 17, 2026, Donna was remembered for her courage, kindness and lifelong dedication to others.
Above all, she was a much-loved wife to Anthony, mummy to Caoibhe, Ciara, Conor and Clíodhna, and nanny to Donnacha, Oisín and Méabh.
Her loss has left an immeasurable emptiness, but her love and legacy live on.
The memorial stone will bear the words “Resist my people, resist them”, the title of a poem by Palestinian poet and activist Dareen Tatour, a fitting tribute to Donna’s unwavering solidarity with Palestine.
Its unveiling in recognition of Palestinian Women’s Day reflects the values Donna held dear: courage, compassion, resilience and the belief that injustice must never go unchallenged.
Donna’s family would be deeply grateful for the presence of all who can attend to remember a remarkable woman who gave so much to her family, community and the causes she believed in.
Everyone is welcome.
The memorial stone unveiling will take place on Saturday, October 24, 2026 at 11am in the Centenary Garden, Camlough in recognition of Palestinian Women’s Day.
