An investigation has been launched after a child was violently attacked by a dog in a Co Armagh play park this week.

It is understood the child was attacked by a German Shepherd in the park in Cullyhanna on Easter Monday, April 18.

Sinn Fein Councillor, Barra Ó Muirí, said he was “very disturbed to hear that a child was violently attacked by a large dog in the Play Park in Cullyhanna on Easter Monday”.

He added: “Our play parks are designed to be safe spaces for our youth and should be protected at all times.

The young person required medical assistance at Daisy Hill Hospital but is recovering well.

“The dog warden is investigating, if anyone saw this attack please get in touch.”

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council confirmed the incident to Armagh I.

A Council spokesperson said: “Newry, Mourne and Down District Council can confirm the matter was reported and responded to by the Council warden. The complaint is currently under investigation.”
