An investigation has been launched following the deaths of two men in separate locations along the Armagh-Monaghan border this morning (Thursday).

At approximately 6.30am, Gardaí said a man was found dead inside a house in Knockreagh Lower, Broomfield – close to the Concession Road – in what is suspected to have been a violent death.

A second man died shortly afterwards – at approximately 7am – in a road crash close to the Concession Road, at Ballynacarry bridge, which separates the Republic of Ireland with Northern Ireland.

Gardaí confirmed that a pedestrian had died after he was hit by a car on the N53 road.

The road has been closed and gardaí and the PSNI have been called to the scene on both sides of the border.

Gardaí suspect the deaths may be connected, but say they are keeping an open mind in their inquiries.

Gardaí in Carrickmacross are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who were travelling in the vicinity of the N53 this morning and who have may camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make it available to gardaí.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Carrickmacross Garda Station on 042 969 0190, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
