The abundance of beautiful forest and country parks in south Armagh and along the Co Down coast are to closed.
And beach facilities operated by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council are shutting too.
Both moves are with immediate effect.
NMD Council confirmed the decision to close all such facilities in its jurisdiction on Monday afternoon.
A spokesperson said: “We ask that members of the public do not visit or try to enter these sites.
“The closures are part of the council’s ongoing coronavirus response and this decision will continue to be reviewed in line with Public Health Agency (PHA) guidance.
“We appeal to everyone to follow PHA advice and strictly adhere to Social Distancing measures in all public places. Please stay at least two metres away from other people.
“We all have a role to play in the battle against coronavirus and social distancing is an essential part of slowing the spread of COVID-19 and saving lives. Thank you for your co-operation at this time.”
