Parts of Armagh was brought to a standstill this afternoon following the discovery of a “suspicious” object.
Police were alerted to the object in the Windmill Hill area of the city by staff at Mount St Catherine’s Primary School around 1pm this afternoon.
The school was subsequently shut and the area cordoned off while Ammunition Technical Officers examined the scene.
The security alerted lasted several hours before police, this evening, declared the scene safe.
A police spokesman said: “The security alert in the Windmill Hill area of Armagh has ended. A suspicious object has been declared to be nothing untoward.”
Windmill Hill has now been reopened to traffic.
