Sports club award nights are a highlight of the year for many.
And one Co. Armagh football team is not allowing the current pandemic to end the party, having devised an ingenious way around this.
Richhill AFC, who like all others saw their season cut short, have refused to let the spread of Covid-19 get in the way of celebrating their achievements and will be posting a video presentation on their Facebook page.
Speaking to Armagh I, Gary McCoo said: “Your awards dinner, you look forward to it and can’t wait to see who wins what. It would be a shame not to do it.
“So I am working with Paul Gwynne, of Airwolf Visual. I am going about getting all the footage and he is brilliant so he will be piecing it all together.”
The video will be set up just as the awards night would have been, with words from the manager, the chairman and the lucky winners of the awards.
Gary remained tight-lipped on the winners and there are sure to be a lot of eyes on the video tonight (Saturday).
He said: “It will be different, but it will be worth it. It will give all the boys a bit of a lift and give other clubs a lift, maybe even spark them to do a similar thing.
“Oh, there will be madness on the comments, boys arguing that they should have got this or the other and he got top goalscorer but he stole my goal – that’s what happened last year!”
It’s only right that the boys and all at the club get recognition after the way things ended.
And speaking of that Gary admits they are disappointed but it was necessary.
He added: “We were in the quarter-final of the cup, so you don’t know what could have happened, but if it saves lives it has to be done.
“We just have to keep motoring on, I mean I could see us not getting back to about December.”
The Award ceremony will be up on Facebook at 8pm on Saturday on the Richhill AFC Facebook Page.
