A chippy in Portadown has been praised for helping out by giving out free meals in the aftermath of Storm Éowyn.
Speaking at Monday night’s ABC Council monthly meeting, Alderman Margaret Tinsley was anxious to praise Gordy’s II, on the Gilford Road.
The DUP Alderman commented: “I want to pay tribute to the local businesses. I was contacted by one business, it was actually Gordy’s chippy (trading as Gordy’s II) on the Gilford Road [in Portadown], and they were offering free meals to vulnerable people if I could deliver them out, or get a few people to deliver them out.
“First of all they donated them, but also members of the public put money in to donate for that.
“I know they probably weren’t the only business that did that, but that really was so appreciated by the vulnerable and those individuals that didn’t have electric.”
The Craigavon DEA representative continued: “Our heads of departments and all of our staff, I can’t thank them enough for all of the quick responses.
“When I had a problem, a query, they were back on the phone straight away with me, they understood how important it was to get back to members quickly, and it didn’t matter that they maybe were telling the same story three, four, five times over.
“I can’t thank you enough for being there for us over the weekend, and just being at the end of that phone.”
