Meeting sought after series of multi-vehicle crashes on Portadown’s busy Northway

Northway Portadown

A series of multi-vehicle crashes on Portadown’s Northway has led to ABC Council seeking a meeting with roads officials to seek urgent action.

Lord Mayor Margaret Tinsley has expressed grave concerns regarding the number – and frequency – of traffic collisions on this busy stretch of road.

The DUP representative – at Monday night’s full council meeting – highlighted the “numerous accidents” happening at the turn-off junction into Asda.

“I’m just wondering what on earth is going on there,” she declared, as she asked for councillors’ support to write to DfI Roads asking for a site meeting.

She said she would like to explore if “there’s something that we can do in terms of working with the multi agencies to see what’s actually causing these accidents, because what’s actually happening is, it’s not a single-car, it’s usually two or three vehicles involved whenever these accidents are happening”.

The recommendation was seconded by Alliance Councillor Joy Ferguson
