‘Charismatic and charming’ Portadown boy’s smile had power to ‘light up any room’

When our time draws to an end on this earth we can only hope to be remembered in fondness. To have lived a life that brought joy to others and a smile to their face. Those who continue to spark happiness, comfort and peace after they have departed is testament to their souls, and a truly special gift to those who mourn their loss.

In the days that follow the sudden – but peaceful – death on April 17 of beloved Portadown boy, Anthony ‘Ant’ Black undoubtedly, his friends and family have been comforted in knowing that this is exactly the impact that his short life had on others.

There has been no shortage of compliments for the young man who touched so many lives.

Late of Dungannon and Portadown, he made friends far and wide, making a remarkable impression on all who had the pleasure of meeting him.

And there is one description of Anthony that sums his bright demeanour up perfectly, he was “full of smiles”.

Described as a “real wee character”, Anthony had the knack of making a person’s day just by flashing them a glimpse of that trademark smile.

It had the power to “light up a room”, said one person. Another added that he had a “wonderful” sense of humour to boot, something they regarded as a “privilege” to get to know.

Another said: “My heart is breaking for this beautiful wee boy, I was one of his classroom assistants in Donard and he was just amazing.

“His smile, his laugh, his pure excitement when he realised what was coming next. My thoughts and prayers with all his family and friends, Alicia and Lee, there are no words, I’m so sorry for your loss xx May he rest in peace.”

“A truly endearing, charismatic and charming little boy who touched the heart of everyone he met. A privilege and pleasure to have taught him and so many happy memories. Thoughts and prayers are with his whole family,” said another.

A death notice described him as the precious king of Alicja and Lee, loving brother of Zofia, cherished step-brother of Tyler-John and a treasured grandson of Sylwia, Piotr and Lorna.

Anthony’s funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11.30am in Milne’s Funeral Home (Portadown) followed by a private cremation.
