‘Pooling’ Resources! Hydrotherapy facility due to reopen

Daisy Hill Hospital, Newry

DAISY Hill’s hydrotherapy pool should be up and functioning again before the end of October, health officials have said.

The Newry hospital’s facility was closed due to a serious leak, causing much anxiety for patients who use it, among them arthritis sufferers and others with musculoskeletal disorders.

Southern Health Trust chief executive Mairead McAlinden said: “We can confirm that, after exhaustive investigation – and seeking advice from specialist consultants – we have discovered the problem that caused the pool to leak and kept it out of use for this time.

“All materials to repair the pool have been delivered and we are now beginning refurbishment work, which should be completed by the end of October.”

Local Assemblyman Dominic Bradley has been an ardent supporter of the availability in Newry and Armagh of local health services.

“Progress has been slow, but I am delighted the end is now in sight, as hydrotherapy is an important part of many people’s care,” he said.
