Police appeal for help after woman mugged in early morning attack

Police have issued an appeal for help after a 44-year-old woman was mugged.

The woman had been walking along an alleyway at the time of the incident, which happened at 8.30am on Thursday, February 19, between Ardboe Drive and Trasna Way.

Police, appealing for help this evening, say the victim was approached from behind by a person who grabbed her and then ran off with her purse which contained a sum of cash.

“We would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this incident or has information which could assist our investigation,” said a PSNI spokesperson. “We can be contacted on 101.”

“I would also like to remind people to be mindful of their personal security when out and about on their own. Try to be aware of your surroundings and don’t carry valuables, such as mobile phones or MPS players in full view. Don’t wear headphones so that you can hear anyone approaching. If you feel uncomfortable, whilst out and about, make your way to a busy area where there are plenty of other people around.

“If you would like more information on personal security you can contact one of our crime prevention officers on 101.”
