A young GAA player seriously injured in a game on Sunday is making “very good progress” in hospital.
Pearse Casey had been playing for St Patrick’s Cullyhanna against Mullaghbawn.
The championship match was halted after four minutes after the Cullyhanna man was injured.
Emergency services including Air Ambulance NI were tasked to the scene.
The whole community has rallied behind the club and Mr Casey’s family.
Now, St Patrick’s has thanked all for their support and assured well-wishers of the popular player’s progress.
Posting on social media, the club said on Monday evening: “St Patrick GAA Cullyhanna would like to express our sincerest thanks to the many Gaels in Armagh and across Ireland who have been in touch with their good wishes following last night’s incident in Mullaghbawn.
“We are delighted and relieved that Pearse is making very good progress and is receiving the best possible care in the Royal Hospital in Belfast.
“We wish Pearse all the best as he continues his recovery. St Patrick’s will continue to do everything we can to support Pearse and his family who are very grateful for all the kindness they have received.
“We join the Casey family in reiterating our sincerest gratitutude to all those who assisted Pearse, the staff in the hospital, the Air Ambulance personel, the medical and support staff who attended Pearse on the pitch, the match officials and the entire Mullaghbawn club especially their stewards for the expertise and respect shown to Pearse. Thank you to all.”
