Official celebration for new-look Shambles Market!

AN official celebration event will take place next week to mark the re-opening last month of Armagh’s famous Shambles Market – after an £877,000 facelift!

Traders returned to the Shambles Yard at the start of November, and now, Armagh City and District Council – in partnership with Armagh Renewed – will host a special celebration next Friday, December 14, from 10am to 12 noon.

Armagh Lord Mayor Sharon Haughey said: “This festive celebration event will showcase what the traders have on offer. There will be some Christmas demonstrations on the day, including decorating your Christmas cake and how to stuff the Christmas turkey, to name a few.

“The council has continually invested in the city and the surrounding towns to support local businesses and the Shambles Market will bring further opportunities for growth, so I encourage everyone to come along to the Shambles Market on December 14 to enjoy a festive and vibrant atmosphere.”

Lord Mayor Haughey added: “The refurbishment marks a new chapter for the Shambles Market traders. It creates more space for new traders to set up and compliments the busy Armagh City centre.

“As a shared space the Yard will provide opportunities to host up-coming events throughout the year. Despite gloomy economic times, Armagh traders, in shops and in the markets, are keeping the city vibrant and welcoming for locals and visitors alike.”
