Seventy-two new Covid cases in NI with majority affected under 40

There have been 72 new positive cases of Covid-19 recorded across NI in the past 24 hours, according to the Department of Health.

The majority of theses (48) have been in people under 40.

The number of hospital inpatients has risen from 10 to 17 in that time, however, there were five cancer patients in Craigavon Area Hospital confirmed to have contracted the virus on Tuesday.

This follows a second reported cluster at the Co. Armagh hospital.

There have been 10 people admitted to hospitals with Covid in the last 10 days, but 12 people have been discharges in the same period.

Of the 384 positive results in the last week, 20 came in the ABC borough – eight in the last 24 hours – while NMD district recorded 12, with three in the last day.

Belfast (19) and Mid East Antrim Council (9) boroughs were the two highest for new cases in the last 24 hours.
