No further deaths from Covid-19 reported in Northern Ireland

Tuesday's figures come ahead of fresh debate expected next week in the Northern Ireland Assembly over the wearing of face masks in shops

There have been no further deaths as a result of Covid-19 in Northern Ireland in the past 24 hours.

Latest figures released via the daily dashboard from the Department of Health report that there have to date been a total of 556 deaths.

Of these, 59 occurred within the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council area and 33 within Newry, Mourne and Down District.

There have been two further cases of Covid-19 confirmed.

One of these was in Newry, Mourne and Down District Council area and the other in Mid and East Antrim.

Tuesday’s figures come ahead of fresh debate expected next week in the Northern Ireland Assembly over the wearing of face masks in shops.

It is now mandatory that face masks should be worn on public transport here.

But the issue of making face masks mandatory in retail outlets looks set to be on the table for discussion later this week.

It is due to come into place in England in two weeks time and seems likely that Northern Ireland will follow suit.
