Nine further Covid-related deaths in NI as cases bounce back up after one-day anomaly

There have been nine further Covid-related deaths reported in Northern Ireland, eight of these occurring in the latest 24-hour period.

One of those deaths occurred in the Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough, with a further one also being reported in Newry, Mourne and Down.

According to the official dashboard, there were a further 1,248 – up 555 – positive cases reported with 195 in Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon – the highest in NI. There were 132 positive cases in Newry, Mourne and Down while Mid-Ulster District recorded 91. Belfast had the second highest with 184.

A total of 5,351 individuals were tested in that time.

There are 409 – a decrease of four – people in hospitals across Northern Ireland as a result of the virus, 46 – no change – of whom are in intensive care unit.

There are 92 – up three – Covid patients in the Southern Trust area, 70 of whom are in Craigavon Area Hospital. There are 13 patients in Daisy Hill and eight in South Tyrone Hospital.

There are currently 18 ICU beds available in Northern Ireland.

The total number of deaths now stands at 2,394.

Hospital occupancy currently stands at 105% – a 1% decrease on yesterday – of capacity.

The Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council area accounts for 323 deaths overall; Newry, Mourne and Down District accounts for 183 while Mid-Ulster has registered 222 deaths.
