Large scale rescue operation after cattle fall into slurry tank in south Armagh

A large scale rescue operation took place in south Armagh after a number of cattle fell into a slurry tank this morning (Thursday).

Emergency services were called to a farm on the Hatters Road in Newtownhamilton around 8.30am.

Upon arrival crews were faced were removing four cattle from the tank.

Fire appliances from Newtownhamilton, Keady and Newry all attended the incident, with large-scale special rescue unit deployed from Belfast, along with large animal recuse from Newcastle.

The operation, which saw four cattle rescued, took around four hours to complete.

All animals were accounted for and are understood to be safe and well.
