Picnic tables in a play park in Newtownhamilton – donated by a local community group – have been destroyed by vandals.
The outdoor furniture within Jim Steen Play Park was targeted this week.
Ulster Unionist Councillor David Taylor has condemned those responsible.
“The damage caused to a number of picnic tables within Jim Steen Play Park in Newtownhamilton is absolutely disgraceful and only serves to impact on the quality of provision at the facility,” said Councillor Taylor.
“The picnic tables were kindly provided by Newtownhamilton Community Association and are a great asset to the park and it is extremely disappointing to witness such wanton destruction occur.
“Jim Steen Play Park is a wonderful asset for the Newtownhamilton area and one that the community should be able to enjoy particularly at this time of year.
“Those who caused the damage should hang their heads in shame. They have nothing positive to offer to the local community and should desist from any further activity of this type of nature.
“If anyone has any information on the damage caused and who the identity of perpetrators may be, I would appeal to them to pass this on to the PSNI immediately.”
