A Newry-based choir has wowed Britain’s Got Talent judges with their fantastic performance.

But sadly, for the Choir Studio in Newry, they did not take it through to the next round of the ITV talent show contest (check out the video below).

Choir Leader Kathy McCaughey told Armagh I : “We got through to the arena auditions in Manchester in February time, just before lockdown.

“Our experience was amazing! We got a standing ovation from the entire Lowry Theatre.

“The judges’ deliberation was memorable too. Alesha Dixon said she had never seen a mixed aged choir before, it was unique and sounded great. She took a shine to our guitar player Gareth and called him a ‘ledge’.

“David Walliams agreed and loved our kid soloists, Amanda loved our song arrangement and harmonies.

“Simon wanted our kids choir to go though as a solo act and made the choir perform a ‘sing off’ adults against kids! We ended up with three yes votes and a fourth undecided vote, a ‘yes’ for kids only and ‘no’ to mixed aged choir.

“These votes put us in the running for the live shows. Unfortunately, we did not make the lives and are so disappointed our audition was not aired on ITV.

“Nonetheless, it was an experience of a lifetime.”
