A Newry councillor has called for increased vigilance following a ‘creeper style’ burglary at a home in Lislea.
Councillor Oonagh Magennis, who represents the Slieve Gullion DEA on Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, condemned the incident which took place in the Lisgarvagh area yesterday (Thursday).
A Volkswagen Jetta type vehicle was stolen in the early hours of the morning.
Councillor Magennis said: “It has been reported that the stolen vehicle passed through Forkhill village at approximately 3.20am followed by a black jeep.
“I would appeal to anyone who has information about this crime or on the whereabouts of the stolen vehicle to contact the police. These criminals must be caught and dealt with. Our communities deserve to live free from crime and free from the fear of it.”
She added: “Those responsible for these type of creeper style thefts are seasoned criminals with no regard whatsoever for the consequences of their actions.
“I would urge all to be vigilant, and be alert to suspicious behaviour and watch out for each other.”
