A £500 reward is being offered for the conviction of those responsible for a downright heinous and horrific mutilation of a dog in Newry.
The Ulster Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (USPCA) is offering the reward for information leading to a successful conviction after the discovery of mutilated dog remains in the Derrybeg / Meadow area of Newry.
The animal welfare charity was alerted of the incident on Friday evening by a member of the public and have since been coordinating with the relevant agencies to investigate the circumstances.
If you have any information regarding this incident which could aid the investigation, particularly in relation to the sighting of a black Staffordshire bull terrier dog approximately ten years of age, please contact the USPCA on 028 3025 1000 immediately.
USPCA Chief Executive, Brendan Mullan, said: “This horrible discovery is incredibly troubling for all of us at the USPCA, PSNI and Council Animal Welfare, who we are working with to determine the cause of death and whether the mutilation occurred pre or post mortem.
“Regardless of the circumstances or motive, it is absolutely unforgivable for an animal to be subjected to this type of vicious abuse and cruelty,” continued Brendan.
The USPCA is thankful to the member of the public for bringing this distressing case to our attention and we are urging anyone with information that could help the investigation, to come forward immediately.
