Three people killed in road collision near Ravensdale

Three people have died following a two-vehicle road collision on the N1 less than a mile from the Armagh border.

The tragic incident occurred at about 2.15am at Carrickcarnan, near Ravensdale in Co. Louth.

A fourth person, a man in his early 20s, was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Dundalk, where his condition is described as serious.

Gardaí are currently at the scene and the road is currently closed and local diversions are in place.

The A1 is closed in both directions at Dublin road / Forkhill Road.

Diversion for both north and south bound traffic via Old Dublin Road and back onto N1 at Carrickarnan.

Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are currently conducting their investigations.

Their deaths bring to five the number of people killed on Irish roads in under 24 hours.

The driver and passenger of a car travelling in Co Cavan were killed in a road crash on Friday evening.

Both of the vehicle’s occupants were aged in their 60s.

They were pronounced dead at the scene of the collision in Ballinagh shortly after emergency services arrived.
