Thieves attempt to break in to shopping centre via glass roof

Thieves tried to break into a shopping centre via its glass roof in the early hours of this morning.

The incident happened at the Buttercrane Shopping Centre in Newry in around 1am.

Police in Newry are appealing for information from the public and it remains unclear how many were involved in the break-in attempt.

A police spokesperson said: “Sometime between 1am and 1.30am an attempt was made to enter the premises via the glazed roof. Entry was not gained however two panes of glass were damaged.

“Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity around the area during this time. They can be contacted on 101, quoting ref: 219 261115.

The shopping centre is used by many across county Armagh and further afield.
