Permission is being sought for the redevelopment of the former Iceland store in Newry city centre – into a substantial Community Resource Building.
An application was submitted to Newry, Mourne and Down District Council in the name of Mr Liam Devine of The Clanrye Group – a leading Newry-based provider of “high-quality programmes and services designed to empower the local community”.
The application seeks full planning permission to redevelop a former Iceland-occupied property at 28 Monaghan Street – directly adjacent to the supermarket’s most recently developed premises.
Permission is being sought for a change of us from a “former single user retail” space with offices, stores and ancillary facilities into a new Community Resource Building.
If approved the new centre would boast a community café, a community shop, training and counselling facilities plus associated offices and stores across the 0.92 hectare site.
There are currently a total of 12 parking spaces on site, which would remain unchanged under the proposals.
The application states the owner of the property to be Mc Nally Late Night Pharmacy Ltd – who have operated a ‘quick script’ kiosk service from the front of the property for more than a decade.
If plans are passed the total gross floorspace will be increased from 1065sqm to 1085sqm.
