Recovery operation after lorry topples over A1 central reservation following collision with car

PSNI A1

The A1 near Newry remains closed to traffic in both directions as a recovery operation gets underway.

A lorry, carrying steel cables, collided with a car around 8am this morning.

The heavy goods vehicle toppled across the central reservation closing forcing police to close the entire road from Loughbrickland to the Sheepbridge roundabout.

The people involved are believed to have suffered only minor injuries.

It’s the second serious crash in the space of just over 12 hours on a road notorious for these sort of incidents.

Yesterday’s horror smash, also involving a HGV, left two people serious in hospital.

One person was taken to the nearby Daisy Hill Hospital while another was rushed to the Royal Victoria in Belfast.
