A man who died after being struck by a bus in Newry city centre has been named locally.
He was 33-year-old Dominic McGrath who was from Iveagh Crescent area of the city.
The incident happened on The Mall, shortly before 4.30pm.
Despite the best efforts of people at the scene and first responders who administered CPR, Mr McGrath was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Mall has since re-opened.
Many condolences have been paid to the deceased and his family at this tragic time.
A death notice described Dominic as the beloved son of Tina and the late Dominic RIP.
He was a dearest brother of the late Clare RIP, a cherished nephew, cousin and friend.
Funeral arrangements will be confirmed later. Deeply regretted and lovingly remembered by his sorrowing family circle and friends. Sacred Heart of Jesus have mercy on his gentle soul.
The community has also rallied behind in support of the bus driver on what would have been a deeply traumatic incident for him.
Inspector Cherith Adair of the PSNI’s Collision Investigation Unit said: “The male, who was a pedestrian, sadly died at the scene as a result of his injuries.
“Enquiries are continuing and police would appeal to anyone with any information or dashcam footage available, to contact them on 101 quoting reference number 1144 17/12/24.”
