A busy tapas-style restaurant in Newry is urging customers to be cautious when buying vouchers after a large quantity of theirs were stolen.
Owned by the Forde family, Art Bar Funkel on Monaghan Street have this week warned customers that “if anyone approaches you to sell Art Bar Funkel vouchers please do not part with your money!”
The restaurant added that they have recently had a “large number of vouchers stolen” from their premises and have since advised customers to purchase vouchers online or in store only.
They said: “We will not be honouring any vouchers beyond number 2050 unless it has a staff signature and date prior to May 6, 2025.”
In the last week there have been several issues relating to burglary and money-related scams in the city.
Sheepbridge Family Entertainment Centre on the Belfast Road have also urged the public to be cautious after a sum of money was stolen during a break-in between 3pm on Wednesday May 7 and 1.15pm on Thursday May 8.
And on May 3, Women’s Aid Armagh Down issued a “fraud alert” when a woman with “no known connection to the charity” was seen fundraising in the area.
Speaking at the time, the non-profit provided advice to the public about how to spot an official fundraiser, adding : “Any person fundraising on behalf of Women’s Aid Armagh Down will always either have workplace identification on their person or will have received an official letter of authority to raise such funds and should be able to present this when requested.”
They continued: “We are always extremely grateful for the support of our communities, from fundraising for an with us to supporting the many who fundraise on our behalf.
“So when someone takes advantage of the generosity of others and does so using our name, we will not stand by and do nothing.”
