Newry animal rescue in ‘quacker’ rescue saving three ducklings in ‘hole’ lot of bother!

'With a lot of patience and even using duck calls on the phone to help coax them out, we’re delighted to share our wildlife team were able to rescue all three ducklings and what a joyous moment it was to finally secure these little guys'

A Newry animal rescue centre have safely transferred three baby ducklings to a brood of 14 thanks to the plucky efforts of their tenacious wildlife supervisor.

The team from USPCA was called to the scene by a concerned member of the public who found a duckling had fallen into an open drain pipe.

That person had tried to retrieve the baby duck but had failed and subsequently called in support from the experts!

Wildlife supervisor, Siobhan spent 30 minutes trying to wrangle the “little guy” out of the hole. Thankfully, her persistence paid off and she “scooped” him out.

He wasn’t alone! When Siobhan had his little webbed feet back on solid ground she discovered two more ducklings stuck down the drain.

Said USPCA: “With a lot of patience and even using duck calls on the phone to help coax them out, we’re delighted to share our wildlife team were able to rescue all three ducklings and what a joyous moment it was to finally secure these little guys.”

The ducklings were immediately placed into an incubator to help warm them up and were transferred to the USPCA centre where they have joined a brood of 14 ducklings that the team have rescued over the past month!

These ducklings will be cared for by the wildlife team until they’re fully feathered and ready to be released back to the wild.

What a quacker!
