New Year, New Home: Beautiful ‘Bones’ surrendered to USPCA for second time

Bones needs an 'extra special' indoor-only home due to testing positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV)

A black cat living with an immunodeficiency condition has found himself starting the New Year searching for yet another new home after being surrendered to a Newry-based animal welfare charity for the second time.

The little cat, known as Bones, is now back under the temporary care of Newry’s USPCA, in what is his third visit to the facility overall.

Expressing their disbelief, a spokesperson for USPCA explained: “This is Bone’s third visit to the USPCA since he was first admitted into our care back in June.

“Sadly, this sweet boy has now been surrendered back into our care twice now and we hope we can finally find him his forever home!”

The team describe Bones as a “super chatty and affectionate boy” who loves nothing more than “getting plenty of fuss”.

They add that he is the “perfect lap cat, as he just loves being with people.”

Bones needs an “extra special” indoor-only home due to testing positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV).

Explaining the condition, USPCA said: “This is a viral infection that causes affected cats to have a weaker immune system. He can still live a happy and full life, but these boundaries just ensure he is kept safe.”

He could potentially live with another FIV+ cat pending gradual introductions in the home. Alternatively, the charity would prefer him to be placed in a single cat household.

Said USPCA: “Bones would love to find a family that will provide him with lots of affection and we know he will make the perfect addition to someone’s family.

“Bones could live with children who are used to cats that can give him his own space while settling into his new home.”

Potential applicants should check Bones’ profile and complete an application form here.
