Belfast Crown Court heard how the defendant led police on an hour-long chase from Belfast to Newry, through Moira and Tandragee.

Maughan, who has amassed an extensive criminal record, drove at speeds of 110mph, while undertaking, overtaking and jumping red lights.

He collided with several police and civilian vehicles along the way.

The pursuit came to an an end in the Craigmore Way area of Newry after police deployed stingers.

Maughan came to police attention at around 4pm on February 1. His Renault Megane, which was towing a trailer, collided with another vehicle on the Grosvenor Road in Belfast.

Maughan fled the scene and drove to Newry via Nutts Corner, Moira and Tandragee.

Officers recovered a number of stolen items in the trailer, which were later returned to their owner.
