Man tries to force pregnant woman from car in attempted Newry hijacking

A man attempted to hijack a car from a pregnant woman in Newry on Tuesday evening.

The attempted hijacking happened in the Killeavey Road area of the city shortly before 7pm.

The woman screamed for help and the man then fled from the scene on foot in the direction of a nearby leisure centre.

He was described as being in his late teens or early twenties, of large build and was wearing a grey puffa jacket, black tracksuit bottoms and trainers.

The woman was left badly shaken following the incident but was not physically injured.

An investigation is ongoing and officers would ask anyone with any information or who may be able to help with the investigation, to call them in Ardmore on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 1627 31/01/23.
