He was released on his own bail of £1,000 to appear before Newry Crown Court in December

A1 near Banbridge

A Rathriland man who is accused of causing grievous bodily injury by dangerous driving will face Crown Court proceedings later this year.

It was heard, that 41-year-old is alleged to have committed the offence on January 9, of last year, on the A1 dual carriageway.

Dennis Thomas Lancaster, of Lissize Avenue, appeared charged with causing grievous bodily injury by dangerous driving at Newry Magistrates’ Court.

Appearing via videolink from his solicitor’s office, the defendant made no objection to the holding of a preliminary enquiry.

Prosecution submitted that based on the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.

Defence solicitor Gerard Trainor made no contrary submissions.

District Judge Eamonn King said that he was satisfied there was a prima facie case to answer.

Lancaster was released on his own bail of £1,000 to appear before Newry Crown Court on December 4 for arraignment.
