Investigation continues into tragic Newry blaze as police confirm man died of smoke inhalation

A second man was taken to hospital by the Ambulance Service where he remains today in a critical condition

A man who died in a fire at Park View Cloughoge did so as a result of smoke inhalation.

Police today (Sunday) confirmed the results of a post mortem examination which was conducted after Friday’s tragic blaze.

The post mortem has concluded that the man died as a result of smoke inhalation.

A second man was taken to hospital by the Ambulance Service where he remains today in a critical condition.

Detective Inspector Haandley is appealing for information

Said the officer: “An investigation into the cause of the fire is continuing at this time and our officers have been in the area conducting a number of enquiries.

“I would appeal to anyone with information they believe could assist our investigation to call detectives at Ardmore on 101, and quote reference number 2294 of 21/05/21.
