Four young people sustain serious injuries after car crashes into wall

Four young people sustained serious injuries after a car struck a wall in Co Down.

And police have appealed for witnesses to the early morning collision to come forward.

It happened on the Newry Road at Kilkeel during the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police and Northern Ireland Ambulance and Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene.

Four sustained what have been described as “serious” injuries.

The fifth was detained in hospital for observation.

Three males and two females had been in the vehicle and police are trying to ascertain what happened.

They have appealed to anyone with information to come forward.

Inspector Denise Graham said: “We received a report at 2.50am that a red coloured Seat Leon had collided with a wall on the Newry Road.”

She added: “The five occupants of the vehicle – three males and two females aged in their teens and early 20s – were all taken to hospital for treatment, four having serious injuries and one male was detained for observation.

“I am appealing to anyone who was on the Newry Road around this time and saw what happened to contact police on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 248 of 12/08/18.”
