Newry Courthouse

A man who was found in possession of heroin has been fined at Newry Magistrates’.

Court heard the 33-year-old had one previous relevant conviction but this offence predated it.

Ailonas Geruli, of Talbot Street in the city pleaded guilty to possession of a Class A drug on Wednesday.

Court heard that on December 17, 2017, police attended a property on Talbot Street, Newry.

During a search of the house officers located two metal wraps of a suspected Class A drug.

Geruli was arrested and when interviewed confirmed that the substance was heroin which he said belonged to himself.

Defence counsel stated that the defendant had been convicted of a similar offence in January of last year, adding that this offence predated this and that he had not offended since.
