Elderly couple robbed by masked men in ‘cowardly and violent’ attack

Burglar

An elderly couple were subjected to an aggressive and violent ordeal as they returned home from shopping in Newry.

The pair had just returned home to their house a few miles away in Warrenpoint when three masked men pounced on Friday night.

Sinn Féin councillor Mickey Ruane has condemned the “cowardly” incident, one he says has shocked the community.

“This was a cowardly attack which has shocked the community,” blasted councillor Ruane.

“Three masked men entered the home of this elderly couple in the Elmfield Villas estate shortly after they returned home from shopping in Newry.

“They were subjected to an aggressive and violent ordeal at the hands of these cowards.

“I visited the victims of this appalling crime. Considering their ordeal they were in good spirits and very thankful for the support of their neighbours.

“However, it is crucial that they and all in our community are protected. I am calling on anyone who may have any information about this robbery to come forward to the PSNI and help bring these criminals responsible to justice.”
