Delight as ‘Summer’ reunited with seven missing pups but care bill is creeping up, say Newry rescue

The USPCA said "all seemed lost" until the final search was conducted by dedicated veterinary nursing assistant, Natasha

A Newry-based animal welfare charity are asking the public to help support a mother dog and her seven young pups that their animal rescue team and veterinary staff spent days relentlessly searching for.

Introducing ‘Summer’ and her babies, the USPCA explained that the mum had been found straying in woodland near their centre at the beginning of August.

They knew the “immediately affectionate” Summer had recently given birth due to milk production but the fact that she had been found alone without pups alarmed the team, fearing that those puppies were “alone, hidden and hungry”.

Determined to locate her little family, the team “spent days” turning over every leaf possible in the area to find them, searching thoroughly at different times throughout the day… but to no avail.

They even took Summer with them to see if she would lead them in the right direction.

The USPCA said “all seemed lost” until the final search was conducted by dedicated veterinary nursing assistant, Natasha.

Thanks to Natasha, seven beautiful pups were found alive!

After receiving the “all clear” from the vets, the seven pups – now named Ash, Aspen, Cedar, Fern, Holly, Maple and Willow as a nod to their whereabouts – were reunited with mum.

Since then they been under the watchful eye of the animal care team where they will remain until they become ready for adoption.

However, the animal rescue have said that by that time, their care bill will have reached almost £2,000.

As a charity, they rely on public donations and fundraising to support the work they do and they have now issued an appeal for contributions towards this little family’s continued care.

Donations, big or small, are being gratefully received via their website here.

While the rescue are always delighted to receive interest in their animals for rehoming they are not currently processing enquiries for Summer or her seven offspring. But updates on this will be made available in due course.
