Defence counsel for a man accused of murdering his own father and attempting to murder his mother are in the “final stage” of solving issues with medical records, a court has heard.
Colin William James McKee (28) – with an address in Canal Street, Newry – was arrested and charged with the murder and attempted murder of his parents – Robert ‘Bobby’ and Yvonne McKee – after a concern for safety call was made to police, drawing them to their home on the Newcastle Road, Kilkeel on March 21, 2024.
Bobby – found unresponsive and not breathing – was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His wife, Yvonne was transported to hospital with serious head injuries. Both were aged in their 60s at the time of the alleged incident.
Appearing via video link from custody in Maghaberry Prison, McKee appeared before Newry Magistrates’ Court for an update on his case.
Defence counsel for McKee explained: “There’s an issue outstanding in terms of a medical report, medical records, which we are at the final stage of solving. We have identified where they are in Scotland.”
The lawyer said that both the prosecution and defence were in agreement the case should be taken for four weeks for review.
Deputy District Judge Kennedy agreed to return the case on September 16 again via video link.
McKee is also facing separate charges relating to dates between September 8 and 11, 2023 whereby he is charged with damaging a lock latch belonging to his mother and the theft of a lock/padlock valued at £10.
