Thanks to ‘the power of social media’ Newry’s Daniel Greer is once again set to take in a live performance from one of his favourite bands, Coldplay, at the incredible Croke Park stadium, Dublin.
The courageous 16-year-old has spent the last two years battling a Leukaemia diagnosis, undergoing chemotherapy, three complicated stem cell transplants, emergency surgeries to deal with complications from treatment and several prolonged hospital stays.
After ringing the bell at Manchester Hospital in May to signal the end of his treatment, Daniel and his family were elated.
However, two months later (July 25) they received the heartbreaking news that Daniel’s Leukaemia had returned.

At the time, a statement on the ‘Do if for Daniel’ Facebook page described his condition as serious but stable.
They said: “Thank you all so much for your prayers. Daniel was taken into intensive care at the end of last month because he had developed sepsis which left him gravely ill.
“Sepsis can be difficult to fight, even for a healthy person, but for a 16-year-old who is already very weak with leukemia it is extremely dangerous.
“Thankfully, staff at the RVH managed to stabilise Daniel to the point that he was strong enough to leave ICU and return to the haematology ward.
“He is still a very, very ill boy but right now he is mostly comfortable, despite the many complications of this horrible disease.”
At the time of their release, Daniel’s family had secured four seated tickets to see Coldplay perform at Croke Park on September 2 – a concert they had very much enjoyed attending in Glasgow as a family in 2022.
However, with Daniel’s changed condition they now required tickets with the venue’s ‘Accessible Area’ to accommodate his wheelchair.
After contacting Ticketmaster – which was to no avail – the family made a desperate plea on Facebook for anyone with “Corporate boxes / GAA links” to see if Daniel could be accommodated.
And, at the ‘Speed of Sound’ their wish was granted!
In less than 24 hours following their plea the ‘Do it for Daniel’ Facebook page explained that Daniel’s mum Anne had received a phone call from the folks at Croke Park who assured they would do their utmost to accommodate Daniel and the entire family.
Yesterday (August 29), it was confirmed they had secured the tickets they needed.
Accompanying a picture of Daniel and his brother James at the 2022 Glasgow Coldplay concert, a spokesperson for the ‘Do it for Daniel’ page said: “The power of social media. Thanks to everyone that helped out!
“Daniel has secured wheelchair access tickets for Mondays show.
“No doubt he will have the best time at Coldplay with his mum, dad and brother.”
Let’s hope they all have the ‘Adventure of a Lifetime’!
