A Christmas dinner and celebration event has been held for young people with a disability after taking part in a social development project.
The event – hosted by the Southern Health Trust in collaboration with youth organisation YMCA Lurgan – was for the ‘Awesome Independers’ group and showcased what they have achieved.
Mark Irwin, Short Breaks Operational Manager for the Trust, said: “This project focuses on developing independent living skills and enhancing social opportunities in a fun and developmental environment for young people whilst also providing a break for parents/carers.
“The group have enjoyed so many different activities and learned a range of new skills over the last year so we wanted to congratulate and showcase these achievements by hosting a Christmas celebration event.
“At the event a creative video, which the group helped to design, was played showcasing the group’s work. The young people also shared their thoughts about their journey on the programme which we feel is the most important and meaningful type of feedback.
“Attendees also reviewed scrapbooks the group have made which allowed parents, carers and professionals gain an insight into the programme.”
