Man, woman and two dogs rescued following arson in Lurgan

The fire, which caused significant damage to the house, was extinguished and no injuries were reported.

A man and a woman, along with two dogs, were rescued from an upstairs bedroom at a property in Lurgan following a suspected arson attack.

Police are appealing for information following the arson at the property on Ulster Street in the early hours of this morning (Friday).

Officers attended the scene around 2:45am, where the NI Fire and Rescue Service crews were tackling a fire at the address.

The fire, which caused significant damage to the house, was extinguished and no injuries were reported.

It is being treated as arson endangering life as signs of accelerant were found at the front door.

Two people were also seen running from the scene, possibly in the direction of the Antrim Road.

Detective Sergeant Stewart said: “Thankfully, there were no reports of any injuries, although this was a reckless attack which could have resulted in serious consequences.

“Our investigation into this morning’s arson is at an early stage and we will be pursuing a number of lines of enquiry. If you have any information that you think could help us in our investigation, please contact 101 quoting reference 182 16/06/23.”
