The owner of Dan Winter’s Cottage – the birthplace of the Orange Order – has been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.
Hilda Winter is a direct descendant through marriage of Dan Winter, a farmer in whose humble home the warrants leading to the formation of the Order were signed following the Battle of the Diamond.
The Loughgall woman receives her award for services to the community.
The Queen’s Birthday Honours list was revealed on Friday night.
Among the other awards is a CBE for Janet McCollum, chief executive of Moy Park Ltd, for services to economic development.
James Richard Johnston receives a British Empire Medal for services to the RUC George Cross Association in Co Armagh.
And also awarded a BEM is Jenifer Livingstone for services to the community in Co Armagh.
