It’s the end of an era in one Co Armagh village this evening.
For years the Huntsman bar at the top of Main Street in Killylea has been a local landmark.
The pub itself – which had includes a bar and lounge and function facilities – had closed a number of years ago.
But many had held out hopes that it would one day reopen as it had a mainstay of village life for generations..
The building as it stands had in recent times fallen into disrepair and windows had been boarded up.
And on Thursday the bulldozers moved in and the property was razed to the ground.
Locals have been shocked and saddened to see the Huntsman gone after news spread on social media.
One said: “I always have fond memories of this place. The people, the characters. There was always plenty of craic. It was sad to see it close but even worse now to see it pulled down and gone altogether.”
Another remarked: “It’s hard to image the top of the street with no Huntsman. It was just there, part and parcel of Killylea and it’s hard to believe the building’s now gone.”
There are no details as yet as to what has been planned for the site.
