Permission sought to add apartment to former Bank of Ireland in Keady

Former Bank of Ireland in Keady

The former Bank of Ireland branch in Keady could be set to see yet more redevelopment after recently being granted approval to house a seasonal goods shop.

The bank ceased to be operational at its 14-16 Kinelowen Street premises in November 2021, entering the property market for sale just six months later.

It had remained vacant until plans were passed in August 2024 for a change of use to accommodate a seasonal goods store.

Now, additional plans have been submitted in the name of Margerite McCoey to Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council for approval that could see a further change of use to the first floor of the existing seasonal goods shop to provide a first floor apartment.

The plans – if approved – could also see internal alterations to the ground floor of seasonal goods shop.

The first floor apartment would see the current offices, staff area and kitchen transformed to include three bedrooms, an open plan kitchen and lounge area and two bathrooms with a terrace area at the front of the building.

On the ground floor the existing lobby area of the store would be repurposed to provide a communal entryway to both the shop and apartments – with separate doorways internally for each.

Two internal offices would be removed to increase the floorspace of the shop.

A staff room and kitchen to the rear of the building would become a ‘display area’ and a second store would be redeveloped to provide a ground floor bathroom and an entry way to a communal amenity space at the rear of the property adjacent to a designated waste disposal area.

The plans are due to be advertised shortly.
